Mason Classical Academy

Mason Classical Academy (MCA) opened its doors in August of 2014 to offer students an excellent education in the classical tradition. A classical education is a balanced education that attends to advancing the intellect while instructing the moral character. It delivers the best content of the Western traditional canon through pedagogy that acknowledges current understanding of child development and learning. MCA students are prepared to think for themselves. They have at their command a large body of factual knowledge, a logical frame of mind that allows them to organize and analyze facts, and the ability to put forward reasoned and persuasive arguments in what they say and write. Under-girding their learning is a keen attention to ethics and the habitual practice of applying wisdom and virtue as a way of life. 

MCA’s philosophy is that all students benefit from the highest standards of academic integrity and a rigorous, content-rich, educational program that develops their intellectual capacity, personal character, and leadership skills. 

MCA’s academic focus is on developing thoughtful, literate, and expressive high school graduates through classical education. Classical education is a time-tested model that is systematic and comprehensive. 

Curriculum highlights include: 

• The chronological study of history that incorporates the use of original texts and sources integrated across subject areas 
• Proven mathematics program (skill grouped) 
• Direct Instruction reading
• Latin instruction beginning in sixth grade 
• A rigorous, comprehensive course of study in science
